Roman Chester (Deva)

The Grosvenor Museum’s Roman collection is one of the largest in the country and includes a wide variety of artifacts, including stone inscriptions, pottery, jewelry, and tools. Many of these items were excavated from the ruins of Chester’s Roman amphitheater, which is located just a short distance from the museum.
Among the highlights of the Roman collection are the famous "Chester Ring," a gold Roman ring, and the "Roman tombstone" of a soldier named Aulus, which provides insight into the lives of the men and women who lived in Roman Chester.
